Strolled on in the Rudy’s Can’t Fail Cafe and chowed down on some serious oatmeal .. bananas .. walnuts .. brown sugar .. raisins .. soooo good.

Cranberry Wild Rice & Buckwheat

Had this amazing rice at Whole Foods today! I checked the ingredients posted and decided to liven it up a little. Check out this recipe for Cranberry, Wild Rice and Buckwheat Salad.

Kinda Ill

Woke up feeling very queasy this morning .. couldn’t even finish my coffee. Sitting with my Aunt watching the news about all these salmonella out breaks in the dairy and chicken farms makes me feel even more blessed to be vegan. I decided I just need to eat something. My Aunt introduced us to this great fresh ground almond butter at Whole Foods Market. I was super excited to find the chocolate almond butter was made with dairy free chocolate! I am also glad to find she has switched to vegan sprouted wheat bread after offering her some a few weeks ago. Isn’t it great how family can share more than love and heartache but can teach each other about healthier ways of life?

Liquid ..

Have not posted in two days .. did a 72 hr liquid diet.  Nothing really exciting to share about that! Here is what is on my menu for a liquid diet.

  • Naked Juice GreenMachine
  • Organic Vegetable broth
  • Tomato puree
  • Organic Soy Milk
  • Water

I do add soy protein and a meal replacer supplement to my juice to ensure I get the nutrients I need.  A liquid diet can benefit your health in two ways. First, it gives your colon a little vacation.  By avoiding hard to digest foods the colon can pass liquid foods easier.  Second, a short period of Ketosis takes place.  Ketosis is when the liver reacts to food deprivation and acetyl-CoA is used to produce ketone bodies instead, leading to a state of ketosis.

During starvation or a long physical training session, the body starts utilizing fatty acids instead of glucose. The brain cannot use fatty acids for energy because the fatty acids cannot cross the blood-brain barrier. However, the ketone bodies produced in the liver can cross the blood-brain barrier. In the brain, these ketone bodies are then incorporated into acetyl-CoA and used in the Krebs cycle.

Morning Folks!

Tell me why after a day of piggin out the next morning I am always HUNGRY!  Nothing better to fill that hunger than stone ground oats, crunchy peanut butter and vanilla soy milk!

TACOS!!!

My roommates and I made some killer tacos tonight after the gym.  Started with fresh guacamole with lime juice and organic black beans.  Sauteed some bell pepper and onion that I got at the farmer’s market today with garlic and EVOO.  Finished them off with the tofu sour cream I made earlier today and some alfalfa sprouts.

This is the best tofu sour cream .. MMMMMMMM! Doesn’t really taste much like dairy sour cream but it is delicious!  Especially if you’ve gone for months or even years without mayonaise 😉

Jack London Farmer’s Market

After a quick visit at church (I missed the service) I took a stroll down to Jack London Square for the Sunday Farmer’s Market. It is totally amazing what one can get for $5 these days.
